The latest smartphone operating system sales market shares for the last three months ending in July 2013 have been released, and Google's mobile platform lost some steam in the United Kingdom.

According to Kantar Worldpanel, Google's Android mobile operating system maintained its first-place finish, however, it came at a loss of 3.8 percent in comparison to the same three months ending in July 2012.

Android finished the three months ending in July 2012 with 59.1 percent, but wrapped up July 2013 with 55.2 percent.

Perhaps taking advantage of Android's slight drop in the market share, Apple saw an increase in its figures.

The Cupertino-based organization finished the three months ending in July this year with 31.1 percent. Although Apple's iOS was 24.1 percent behind Android, the company saw an increase of 7.8 percent from 2012 to 2013.

Microsoft's Windows Phone saw the second-highest share gain in Kantar Worldpanel's latest market figures. Windows Phone saw its market share increase by 5 percent when comparing the three months ending in July 2012 and 2013.

Windows Phone managed 9.2 percent of the operating system market share by the end of July this year, which improved the Microsoft mobile platform's standing in the ranks to third place instead of fourth.

Microsoft's gain was BlackBerry's loss. BlackBerry previously finished third with 11 percent, but fell by 7.5 percent by the end of July 2013. BlackBerry's fourth place finish equals a 3.5 percent market share.

Symbian maintained its fifth-place position. Symbian's market share fell by 1.2 percent for a 0.5 percent finish by July 2013
