Recently, HTC pretty much stated that the HTC One had cost them their profit margins. The expensive solid unibody aluminum chassis and all of the other high-end hardware that goes into making a flagship phone have just cost too much in the manufacturing process. So the Taiwanese company is probably going to focus on cheaper, mid-tier phones that still deliver a quality experience.
The HTC One mini might be a sign of that strategy in action, but if recent leaks by the notoriously accurate @evleaks team are true, expect another low-cost HTC One successor by the end of the year: Meet the HTC Zara.
According to @evleaks, via PhoneArena, the HTC Zara is something of a mashup between the HTC One and the mid-tier HTC Desire lineup. And @evleaks has gotten its hands on some specs and the press image you see above. On the front, it looks like a black HTC One, with the same type of speaker grill for the (possible) BoomSound stereo and a similar capacitive button layout. But on the back, the Desire lineup design shines through (and possibly the Droid DNA as well?). From the looks of it, the HTC Zara will try to combine some of the snazzy looks of its flagship phone, while using some cheaper materials and manufacturing processes.
The HTC Zara is rumored to have a 4.5-inch display, with 540 x 960 qHD resolution. It will be powered by a dual core 1.2GHz Snapdragon 400 processor, assisted by 1GB of RAM. An 8-megapixel camera is rumored to be on the back, which would be a step back from HTC's current commitment to its 4-megapixel "Ultrapixel" sensor, if that spec is accurate. Other rumored details include Android 4.3 running straight out of the box, which makes sense given its rumored Q4 release date.
