Owners of the HTC One handset in the United States might be headed straight for Android 4.3, skipping the Android 4.2.2 update. And that update might be ready for download by the end of September, according to HTC's U.S. president.

Ever since Android 4.3 came out on the same late-July day as the new Google Nexus 7 2, Android device owners of all stripes have been waiting to see if they will have to get an Android 4.2.2 update and then wait for the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system, or if their device will skip right to the good stuff. HTC One owners now have their answer.

Jason Mackenzie, the U.S. President of HTC, tweeted on Friday that the HTC One developers edition will skip the Android 4.2.2 update and go straight to the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean release. Pressed further on Monday, Mr. Mackenzie let a little more information out:

That's basically a semi-promise that all carriers' versions of the HTC One will get the Android 4.3 update by the end of September, as long as the certification goes well and there are no other bumps in the road. Android 4.3 brings many improvements over the Android 4.2.2 and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating systems, including OpenGL 3.0 for better gaming and video graphics. Other features include support for multiple restricted profiles and Bluetooth Smart Ready support. The Bluetooth update looks like it will make the Android device in question capable of tethering to new peripherals, such as Google Glass.

In addition to the HTC One, the DNA will also get an Android 4.3 release. Of course, if you have a Google Play edition of the HTC One, you've already received the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update, but then again, quick updates are one of the prime reasons people were excited about the Google Play edition.
