Nokia Lumia 1020 Price Drop in US: Select AT&T Markets Lowers 41MP Windows Phone 8 Smartphone's Price to $199.99 [Report]

The price of the Nokia Lumia 1020 has dropped by $100 in select locations in the U.S.

The new Nokia Lumia device has traditionally priced at $299.99 since its debut July 26 with exclusive carrier AT&T, but a new report shows the carrier is starting to lower the cost.

According to Boy Genius Report (BGR), the Lumia 1020 is priced at $199.99 when signing a two-year contract with AT&T in some markets in Florida and the Southeast U.S.

The specific U.S. states were not listed, but an AT&T spokesman has confirmed the price drop as part of a small, limited-time promotion.

"AT&T may simply be looking to attract back-to-school shoppers, however, and the fact that this promotion is confined to such a small area within the Southeast region bodes well," reported BGR's Zach Epstein.

As Latinos Post reported, Amazon.com is also offering the Lumia 1020 at a lower cost than AT&T's official price. Amazon's starting price for the Lumia 1020 stands at $249.99 when signing a two-year contract with AT&T, and the offer is acceptable for the black, white, and yellow models. The $249.99 price tag is valid for new and existing AT&T customers in either an individual or family plan.

The 41-megapixel Windows Phone 8 smartphone is also set to debut in China. Nokia China's General Manager Erik Bertman was present for the Lumia 1020's launch on Aug. 15. According to TechinAsia, the unlocked Lumia 1020 will sell in China for RMB 5,999, which is $981 when converted to the U.S. dollar. China Unicom and China Mobile will serve as the Lumia 1020's mobile carriers. The 1020 will be available at the Suning retail store.

The Lumia 1020's features include a 4.5-inch screen with 1,280x768 pixels covered in Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The new Windows Phone 8 device has 32GB of internal storage for 2GB of RAM. The device includes a front-facing camera with 1.2 megapixels, and also packs a 2,000mAh battery.
