The Google Nexus 5 rumor back-and-forth continues, this time with a Vietnamese source (that has previously gotten a hold of devices early) stating that the new Google Nexus smartphone will be made by LG Electronics, and not Motorola.
This Summer's Seesaw
This brings us back to the first rumor about the Google Nexus 5, at the beginning of the summer. At the time, the Korea Times claimed, based on unnamed sources, that the new Nexus smartphone was going to be manufactured by LG Electronics. Then, there were rumors that it wasn't. Following that, Korean media then reported that LG Electronics was going to make a Nexus 5 for Google, based on its LG G2. Further substantiating that report were the rumored specs, which included a 5.2-inch display, which the LG G2 was just unveiled as exclusively having last week.
Then came reports, based on an industry expert, who said Motorola - which has been bought by Google and is now a subsidiary of the company - was working on the Google Nexus 5, following the launch of its highly customizable Google Moto X phone.
The Latest
Now Tinht.vn - known for leaking videos and pictures of the upcoming BlackBerry Z10 successor, along with "first encounters with phones like the iPhone 4S, Galaxy S3, and recently the Moto X," according to PhoneArena - is reporting that LG will indeed be making the Google Nexus 5, which will be based loosely off of the LG G2.
The Google Nexus 5 is expected to have the 5.2-inch touchscreen, which has been a pretty consistent rumored spec throughout the summer's tumultuous rumor mill. Powering the handset will be the LG G2's Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, according to the Vietnamese report, as well as 2GB of RAM. It won't, however, have the LG-proprietary "Rear Key," the volume rocker button placed on the back of the LG G2.
Probably the most sensational part of the recent Google Nexus 5 rumor is that it will come out in Q4 of this year and will be the first smartphone to feature Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie, which, if true, pretty much sets a release date for the new Android system. Of course, late October (which is technically early Q4) is the fifth anniversary of Android, so perhaps we'll see a Google Nexus 5 that early.
Neither Google or LG Electronics have confirmed any of this, so take all of it with a grain of salt (I know, we've had enough grains of salt this summer to de-ice all of North America come December). And keep checking with Latinos Post Tech for the latest on the Nexus 5.
