Sprint is looking pretty stylish for the fall. Just after Big Yellow added the "Purple Mirage" Samsung Galaxy S4, the company announced Thursday that it was going to stock its shelves with a "Red Hot" HTC One, while also announcing a new interactive music streaming app that takes advantage of the HTC One's radio tuner.
The red HTC One is going to hit Sprint's shelves, as well as online, according to CNET, on Friday, Aug.16, offering a little spark of color at no extra cost. The HTC One red has the same specs, software, and features as its black or silver predecessors, and will be available for $200 with a two-year contract. There's also a buy one, get one free with any color HTC One, but only until Aug. 30 and only while supplies last.
The app that comes with this new crop of HTC Ones is called NextRadio, which Sprint calls an "interactive FM radio application." The app works, right now, with the HTC One and the HTC EVO 4G LTE, but Sprint will broaden out the NextRadio service to other devices over the next few years. The NextRadio app combines FM radio and the instant communication capabilities of modern smartphones by allowing users to interact with radio stations by calling or messaging directly from their handsets.
"Our customers already enjoy listening to a variety of music apps on their smartphones, but NextRadio makes it easier than ever to interact with the local radio stations they enjoy listening to in the car virtually anywhere," said Fared Adib, senior vice president-Product Development, Sprint. "Marking another innovation milestone for Sprint, our partners at NextRadio are transforming the FM radio listening experience by allowing users to interact with their favorite radio shows by calling or messaging directly from their smartphone."
