While the Sony Xperia Z may not have Android 4.3 at the moment, a custom mod of the latest version of Android jelly bean provides users who download the mod access to the update's features. CyanogenMod has come up with the Android 4.3 CM10.2 build, and Team Android has the procedure for those wishing to test-out Android 4.3 before it's officially released for the device.

It is important to note that the CyanogenMod version of Android 4.3 is an early build of the operating system, so there will be plenty of bugs and fixes that need to take place before the mod is running with the same efficiency as the official version. In addition, custom mods always carry the risk of causing problems with a device, and could even cause a device to be bricked, so use caution when modifying a device. Users may want to also backup their data to ensure that it survives any transition between the official operating system of the Xperia Z and this mod.

Android 4.3 will add a variety of new features to devices that download the updated operating system. The update will provide a new dial pad, which will have a new autocomplete feature. This will allow users to press just a few letters or numbers to bring up a list of most likely contacts the user is trying to call. Tap-typing will be improved through new algorithms that will make the feature easier to use. Graphically, Android 4.3 allows support for OpenGL ES 3.0, making it possible for the most up-to-date graphics to be displayed on devices that have Android 4.3.

There is a new tab that comes with Android 4.3, which will show what apps are currently disabled. Restricted profiles also come with the upgrade, making it so certain profiles on the device will have limited access to certain apps or data. Africaans, Amharic,Hindi, Swahili (Kiswahili), and Zulu are new languages that are supported with the update, and right-to-left languages such as Hebrew have increased support on the home screen.

Look out for more information about the Sony Xperia Z, such as when the official version of Android 4.3 will be released for the device.
