The fifth downloadable character for Injustice: Gods Among Us has been released, as Martian Manhunter is available for players to purchase for $4.99 on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC. It is currently unknown if the character will be appearing on the WIi U version of the game, as the previous DLC characters for the game (Lobo, Batgirl, Scorpion, and Zod) were finally released for that version of the game in July. Martian Manhunter is not available as part of the game's previous season pass.
The newest Injustice: Gods Among Us character is one of the original Justice League members who first appeared in Detective Comics in 1955. His powers include telepathy, intangibility, and almost is a combination of Batman and Superman. He is a excellent detective and hand-to-hand combatant like Batman, but has superpowers such as flight and heat vision like Superman.
Martian Manhunter is one of the most popular requests for a DC Comics character to be included into the game as DLC. He is popular enough that creative director Ed Boon left the character off an unofficial fan poll for characters fans wanted in the game's DLC, as he would have dominated the competition and run away with the vote tally. Martian Manhunter was announced for the game at EVO 13, where Injustice: Gods Among Us was one of the game's selected for the fighting game tournament.
In addition to Martian Manhunter being put into the game, NetherRealm Studios has confirmed that a sixth playable character for the game will be released sometime in the near future. However, the studio has yet to confirm who the character will be, leading to fan speculation on who it will be. Ed Boon claimed it was another fan favorite on par with Martian Manhunter. The popular fan choices for the sixth playable character include Red Hood, Zatanna, Swamp Thing, and Blue Beetle.
With the upcoming release of Martian Manhunter and the unknown sixth DLC character, the roster for Injustice: Gods Among Us will expand to 30 heroes and villains from the DC Comics universe. It is unknown whether NetherRealm will release additional fighters for the game, or if they will stop delivering new character content for the game after the final character is available. However, even if the developer no longer releases new characters, they will most likely continue to add new character skins to the game.
