If you own the original Google Nexus 7 tablet from last year, you might have noticed a significant drop in performance, including system-wide lag among other issues, after the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean rolled out last year. Good news: Android 4.3, which is currently rolling out for the Nexus 7, seems to fix that.

It turns out that Android 4.3 contains fstrim support for the 2012 Nexus 7. In layman's terms, this means the device can now better manage memory blocks and trash those that are out of use, keeping the entire engine running smoother than if the gunk piled up. All in all, Nexus 7 performance will drastically improve, and should feel like the tablet experience everybody was, and still is, expecting.

You can read a full explanation of the process by which Android 4.3 improves performance over at AnandTech, where Brian Klug spotted the fix.

Android 4.3 Jelly Bean doesn't bring much to the tablet, but Google does promise that it further optimizes system processes and should increase interface fluidity and power management. For tablet users, Android 4.3 introduces a new restricted access profile for utilization with the multi-user profile feature that debuted in Android 4.2.2. It allows parents to better regulate the Android environment for their kids, even going so far as to completely block any app store or in-app purchases made from a restricted user profile. Other than that, Android 4.3 also includes some new coding that allows for better quality video streaming and gaming, as well as more language support.
