Pikmin 3 is rapidly approaching it's Aug. 4 U.S. release date, with some players getting a special opportunity to try it out a day early. With the game already out in international markets, the legendary Shigeru Miyamoto recently spoke to Eurogamer about the long-awaited newest title in the Pikmin series. In the interview, the creator of the Mario and the Legend of Zelda franchises revealed that the game may have DLC on the way, as the game's focus on challenge and time-trial missions lends itself well to additional content:
"Nothing has been decided yet...but Pikmin 3 puts importance on the player replaying and re-challenging himself, an element that makes the game more and more fun as users play it many times. If we hear players' desire to play more with add-on content, we would love to consider the possibilities."
It would seem as Pikmin 3 would be perfect for DLC, and continuously adding new levels to the game would really help the long-term success of the game and would help the series stay at the level of other big franchises with DLC add-ons and season pass content.
Miyamoto also explained how involved he was with the creative aspects of Pikmin 3. He revealed he was more of an overseer to make sure the game and it's aesthetic were as far-reaching as possible:
"In this series, I am especially involved in deciding on the basic concept. Another role would be designing the characters, particularly making them appealing and their overall appearance."
Considering Miyamoto has created the most popular franchises of all time, his involvement with Pikmin 3 may be the reason why Nintendo's brass are hoping the game can kick start interest in the Wii U and lead to a renaissance period for the console as Sony and Microsoft prepare to release their own next-gen consoles.
Finally, Miyamoto admitted that, even with the wealth of experience he has developing and creating games, he still has trouble making sure all of his Pikmin get to safety at the end of a level's time period:
"I would love to [save them], but it's not possible with my skill...So I have given up. But there are some staff who actually accomplished [this]. Personally, I like challenging myself to beat my own score in the mission mode."
It looks as though players will have to sacrifice their Pikmin more often then they may think to beat their best times in Pikmin 3. Look out for more Pikmin 3 news as we zero in on the game's release.
