Samsung Galaxy S2 owners have been patiently waiting for some good news concerning an Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update, and while we hate to disappoint, there's a good chance there's nothing coming.

It's been well noted that Samsung's been having problems porting over the new Galaxy S4 TouchWiz interface to older devices, and it looks like that issue will plague the Galaxy S2 as well. According to Connect.de, Samsung is scrapping Android 4.2.2 completely for the handset, which essentially means that's the end of the line. If Android 4.2.2 can't be ported, there's little chance that Android 4.3 will be — sorry Galaxy S2 owners, what you have now is all there ever will be as Android 4.2.2 was scheduled to be the last update for the Galaxy S2.

As usual, Samsung has not officially commented on the matter, so there's still a chance the South Korean electronics manufacturer will roll out a new firmware. But given the fact that the Galaxy S2 is 2 years old, and the fact that Samsung is struggling to update the newer Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2, chances are slim.

Luckily, reliable Samsung-centric website SamMobile does state that they have confirmed that the Galaxy S2 Plus will still receive Android 4.2.2.

Owners of the original Samsung Galaxy S2, however, will have to take solace in custom ROMS, which can void warranties and create issues for the inexperience — but hey, the warranty's probably already run out and something's better than nothing, isn't it?
