The MLB is reportedly considering a lifetime ban for New York Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez because the evidence against him is "far beyond" anything the league had on Milwaukee Brewers star Ryan Braun.

A-Rod is reportedly facing longer punishment than Braun's 65-game ban for his involvement in the Biogenesis doping scandal. According to MLB Trade Rumors, the Yankees slugger is planning to make an appeal in an attempt to postpone his looming suspension until the 2014 season.

Joel Sherman of New York Post said A-Rod's suspension would benefit the Yankees financially because it will drastically cut the luxury money the ballclub is required to pay.

According to a Twitter post by ESPN's T.J. Quinn, the MLB is seriously considering a lifetime ban for A-Rod, which is two years and additional process for activation, but it would be very difficult for the MLB to convince an arbiter to put that kind of verdict on the baseball star.

Fox Sports writer Ken Rosenthal expects Rodriguez to hire multiple lawyers, including Braun's former attorney David Cornwell. However, Rodriguez already lost one of his assets in his legal team when he and Jay Reisinger decided to part ways.

"When people don't tell him what he wants to hear, he goes out and finds someone who will," a person close to Rodriguez told Rosenthal.

The 37-year old Rodriguez is currently rehabbing in the minor leagues with an expected major league return scheduled on Aug. 6, if he doesn't get suspended by that time.
