Apple will reportedly drop its iPhone 5 production following the launch of the iPhone 5S and the long-speculated low-cost iPhone, according to a new report.

ET News reported Apple is preparing to discontinue the iPhone 5 in effort to focus on the iPhone 5S debuts later this year.

As Apple Insider noted, if the report is true, it would be a change to Apple's traditional routine. The Cupertino-based organization has usually kept the previous two generation iPhones along with the newest model. For example, Apple.com currently sells the iPhone 5 but also the iPhone 4S and iPhone 4.

"That system has led to Apple's current situation, which sees the iPhone 5 at the high-end, followed by the iPhone 4S at a medium price range, and the iPhone 4 often given away alongside a contract in the United States and some other territories," wrote Kevin Bostic of Apple Insider.

As Latinos Post has been following, analysts have made their projections on when the iPhone 5S will launch.

KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo provided a late September forecast, yet stated the low-cost iPhone might launch in early September instead.

Jefferies analyst Peter Misek said the next-generation Apple smartphone is likely to launch in either late September or early October.

In terms of iPhone sales, Misek projects Apple to order 25 million iPhone 5S units, while the low-cost iPhone may range at 20 million units. Kuo, however, believes the iPhone 5S will ship 32 million units by the end of the year, while the low-cost iPhone will get 26 million units.
