Sony's popular Xperia Z smartphone is still in the midst of receiving Android 4.2.2, but that hasn't stopped Sony from officially coming out and confirming Android 4.3 will land on the smartphone in the future.
Google officially unveiled Android 4.3 to the public at an event Wednesday morning in San Francisco, and the Japanese-based electronics manufacturer responded with a statement.
"Yesterday you probably saw Google announce the next version of Jelly Bean (Android 4.3) - we're already getting stuck in and can confirm we'll make 4.3 available for: Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia SP and Xperia Z Ultra..." Sony Mobile wrote in the company's official blog.
"We're also looking at uplifting some of our other devices running 4.1 direct to 4.3 - we'll share more info / deets / timings when we can, so be sure to follow @SonyMobileNews for all the latest."
Sony doesn't mention any specific time frames, but it's safe to expect Sony to complete upgrading its main flagship lineup devices to Android 4.2.2 before moving on to Android 4.3. In other words, it could be months.
Android 4.3 isn't a major step forward, and instead optimizes the Jelly Bean experience by making it smoother with some new functions. Bluetooth Smart is supported, and Google has included some nifty coding for a better video streaming and gaming experience. Tablets running Android 4.3 will have more advanced parental controls in regards to the multiple user profiles Android 4.2 introduced.
