With increasing competition against Samsung, Apple is reportedly testing larger screens for its smartphones and tablets.
According to people familiar with Apple's suppliers, the Cupertino-based organization have asked for prototype smartphone screens that are larger than its current iPhone devices. The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) also reported that Apple has requested screen designs that are "slightly less than 13 inches."

"Whether the designs will make their way to market is unclear, but they could lead to Apple phones and tablets that are larger than the current 4-inch iPhone 5 and 9.7-inch iPad," wrote Lorraine Luk and Ian Sherr of the WSJ.
Although an Apple spokesperson dismissed the news, Reuters has also reported on Apple's efforts on testing larger screens for its iPhones.
If the reports are true, it may be Apple's effort to compete with companies that provide a variety of devices with different screen sizes, like Samsung and Nokia, which feature devices with largers screens such as the Galaxy S4's 5-inch screen or the recently announced 4.7-inch Nokia Lumia 625.
"Apple has been slow to react to consumer desire for larger smartphone screens, [and] entry level price points on new phones," commented BGC Financials' Colin Gillis in a note to investors. "Waiting and waiting, for the new products to launch, has become painful."
"In the long run, we will see touch screens in all sizes as the future vision of the technology industry is to offer the same user experience across all screens," said IDC analyst Helen Chiang, via the WSJ. "The key is to bring down the cost and introduce compelling applications for large-screen devices."
