Microsoft Surface Pro Review: Problems With Wi-Fi Issues Encountered with Microsoft Tablet

Wi-Fi issues continue to frustrate Microsoft Surface with Windows 8 Pro users.

As seen on Microsoft's Community website, a Surface with Windows 8 Pro owner asked if Microsoft plans to fix their Surface Wi-Fi issues.

NamelessNN started the thread and stated how "extremely upsetting" it is that the Wi-Fi problems continue despite Microsoft announcing they would release a patch for the issue.

"Time and again they SAY they patched it and that the [Wi-Fi] issues should be fixed and it's STILL not fixed. And their response is 'well, just wait for the next patch, that will be the one!' and here we sit, still waiting for them to make our devices useful. I spent a lot of money on this thing and it's virtually useless," wrote NamelessNN.

The Surface with Windows 8 Pro owner added that traveling with the tablet is impossible since there is no Wi-Fi connection, and it only connects to the holder's home network.

However, "the connection is so shotty that I can't even stream videos."

NamelessNN says one solution is to sell the Microsoft tablet despite believing the Surface with Windows 8 Pro is a "damn near perfect device."

Forum Moderator Steve_B provided what may be a solution to the Wi-Fi issue. He offered a 26-step procedure.

The procedure starts with logging onto a separate PC in order to download the Surface Pro Enterprise Driver Package. The Surface owner will have to transfer the ZIP file onto a USB drive and connect it to the tablet. After extracting the files, delete all folders except the Marvell folder. Open the Marvell folder and the "20130311_Release_R93_Signed" folder, then the WLAN folder the win8 folder section.

After opening the x64 folder, click on the View option at the top of the ribbon and check the box for File Name Extensions. The user has to right click on the INF file "mwlu97w8x64.inf18" then click Install.

"You will get a message saying 'The operation completed successfully,'" wrote Steve_B, as users should click "OK."

Next, the tablet owner should swipe from the right in order to click settings and access the Control Panel. The user has to set the view to Icons, click Windows Update, and finally click Check for Updates.

No word yet if Steve_B's steps was successful for NamelessNN.

As Latinos Post reported, Microsoft announced the updates for its Surface tablets, however, the Surface with 8 Pro featured no firmware update. The Surface with Windows RT's update was aimed to "enhance system performance and reliability."
