After leaking through nearly every pore on the Internet, the Motorola Moto X smartphone finally has an official unveil date: Aug. 1. The handset should then begin hitting retail stores' shelves during the second half of August.
Motorola has sent out press invites for an event in New York on Aug. 1 at which the Moto X phone will finally be presented to the public. No other details are given, and it will be the Moto X's first official appearance after being ousted in an abnormal amount of leaks over the past few weeks.
Leaked memos from two major U.S. carriers reveal that the Moto X should go on sale in late August. An internal Verizon document shows that Big Red will begin selling the phone Aug. 23. U.S. Cellular will follow up with an Aug. 26 launch. Bear in the mind that the dates have not been officially confirmed, so they could shift around a bit. We'll have to wait for concrete details out of the Aug. 1 event. Dates for the other major U.S. national carriers AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile have not been leaked yet.
Rumored specs for the Moto X include a 4.5-inch 720p display, a 1.7GHz dual-core processor, 2GB RAM, and a 2,200mAh battery. The rear-facing camera is said to shoot stills at around 10 megapixels and the Moto X should ship with the latest version of Android onboard. The Moto X will also feature always-on voice commands and a new notification system without LEDs. The Moto X will be the first smartphone assembled in the United States, even though components will come from overseas.
