Angry Birds News: Rovio Accounts Rolling Out Globally For Game

Rovio certainly has been busy lately. The developer behind the biggest mobile gaming franchise of all time, Angry Birds, is busy working on the recently announced Angry Birds Star Wars 2, and now it looks like the developer has been working on a new feature that could really help out fans of the series and Rovio's other games.

Androidos is reporting that Rovio is ready to roll out the Accounts feature globally, meaning that gamers all over the world will be able to use their account to access their save files on any device. Currently, the feature is only available in the USA for the original Angry Birds and the movie tie-in game The Croods, but it will be coming soon to other games shortly. This means that users who play on multiple devices won't have to save files separately on those devices. Instead, users can have synced save files no matter where they go and what device they use. Accounts are also a way for users to retain their game information in case they buy a new device. However, one thing that will not transfer between devices are powerups, which are saved to individual devices and not cloud storage.

This is similar to what some other publishers and developers offer users, such as EA Origin accounts. Rovio has an FAQ page for anyone interested in finding out more about the Rovio Accounts feature. Rovio did not mention if all future games will have this feature, but it can be assumed that games such as Angry Birds Star Wars 2 will support the Accounts feature at launch, so that those who download the game are able to enjoy the feature from day one.

This news comes right off the heels of the announcement of Angry Birds Star Wars 2, the sequel to the very popular tie-in that saw the birds get dressed up in special Star Wars costumes to take down the dastardly green pigs. This time, the sequel will focus on characters from the prequel trilogy of movies, such as Anakin Skywalker and Jar-Jar Binks. Other than that, players should expect the familiar Angry Birds gameplay, with the only exception being the brand-new mode that will allow players to control the pigs rather than the birds. It was also announced recently that the original Angry Birds would be heading to consoles as well later this year.
