Samsung Galaxy Note 2s worldwide have been waiting patiently for an Android 4.2.2 update, and while initial speculation centered on the fact that the phablet might not see the upgrade until November, a new report states that it might not see Android 4.2.2 ever.

According to Temefy, Samsung might just skip over Android 4.2.2 for the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and instead release Android 4.3 in November 2013. Temefy sources the information to an unnamed Samsung R&D employee in India, so be sure to take the information with a pinch of salt.

"According to the insider, Samsung R&D India is currently working on Jelly Bean 4.2.2 Update as well as the Jelly Bean 4.3 Update for the Galaxy S3, Note 2 as well the the Octa core Version of Galaxy S4 which currently sells in India," reads the Temefy report.

"The insider also suggests that Samsung might skip the 4.2.2 Jelly Bean Update altogether due the introduction of the Vanilla Experience of Jelly Bean 4.3 in Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Edition."

Temefy has been the only one to report such a claim, and while it's debatable whether Samsung will simply move on to Android 4.3, a November release time frame for the next Galaxy Note 2 Android update lines up with previous reports. Lagging Galaxy S4 sales have led many to believe that Samsung will hold off upgrading its older devices until the Galaxy S4 can be bumped up to Android 5.0 "Key Lime Pie," which is expected to release sometime around October or November. This way, Samsung can ensure that customers who want the latest version of Android and TouchWiz will be forced to pick up newer devices like the Galaxy S4 (and soon-to-be-released Galaxy Note 3) instead of older, cheaper, yet still-top-of-the-line ones like the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2.

The new Android 4.3 mobile operating system is expected to be unveiled at a Google event on July 24, and will only contain incremental changes over Android 4.2.2.
