Microsoft made a lot of waves when they announced that the Xbox One would not be backwards compatible with Xbox 360 controllers and other accessories, and that a headset would not be included with the console, as they expected users to use the Kinect to communicate with others. Well, now the chief rival to Microsoft on the video game market, Sony, has revealed their strategy for headset support for the PlayStation 4. Typical for Sony, the company has taken the adverse position from the Xbox One, and has put another feather in their cap when it comes to popularity amongst gamers.

Polygon is reporting that those who have wireless headsets for the PlayStation 3 will be able to continue using them with the PlayStation 4. This means gamers who have dropped serious dough on high-end headsets will not have to buy a whole new headset for the PlayStation 4 if they prefer their own wireless headset. It should also be pointed out that the PlayStation 4 will ship with a mono headset as part of the overall package.

While this news about headsets may seem like small potatoes to some, in reality, with the amount of online games on the market and the increased focus on teamwork and cooperation in gaming, headsets have become very important to the overall multiplayer experience. Some serious online gamers may be turned off by having to use the Kinect, as it could pick up background noise and cause interference and annoyance for everyone listening. Having to pick up another headset for the console would be a pain, and being able to use an old PlayStation 3 headset for the PlayStation 4 may make more practical and financial sense for gamers.

Gamers curious about the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One have a chance to test out the systems and the games for them themselves, provided they are at Comic Con this week. Comic Con will be the first time members of the general public will be able to get their hands on the consoles, so those who have managed to snag a ticket to the San Diego expo have a real treat on their hands. The PlayStation 4 does not have a release date set yet besides a promise to come out in 2013, and the Xbox One is confirmed for a November launch.
