The HTC One began receiving its Android 4.2.2 update a couple weeks ago in regions across Asia, and as time has worn on, the highly-anticipated update is making its way across Europe. The latest batch of lucky recipients are those in the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Spain.
Those with unlocked HTC Ones in the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Spain should already be able to snag Android 4.2.2 off the air, and carrier Three announced on Monday via Twitter that they were also pushing out the upgrade to customers. As with all over-the-air updates, the firmware will hit the public in batches, meaning some regions and handsets will receive it first, with others following close behind. Those downloading it will want to have their handset tethered to a Wi-Fi connection and charged to at least 50 percent.
Most other regions across mainland Europe have reported that the Android 4.2.2 update is rolling out, and main Asian markets such as China are also confirming the release. Sadly, there's been no word from American carriers on when HTC Ones in the States will see Android 4.2.2, and there might not be for a while. U.S. wireless networks are notoriously slow in developing and releasing Android updates thanks to a severe case of Android fragmentation.
Android 4.2.2 isn't necessarily a huge bump from Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, but it will give HTC One owners the satisfaction of having the latest version of Android up and running on their handsets. The move puts the HTC One on par with rival Samsung's Galaxy S4, which shipped with Android 4.2.2 out of the box.
