Demand for Apple's MacBook Pro with Retina screen is reported to be exceeding the company's projected demands.

Retina screens are already available for iPhone and iPad screens, which leads to confusion as to why Apple could not meet the demand for its 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display.

"The MacBook Pro with the Retina display was incredibly well received and we ended the quarter in backlog," said Apple's Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook. "We still have not caught up with demand yet, but anticipate doing so next month."

According to KGI Securities analysts Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple is planning to release the 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro shortly after the launch of the iPhone 5, meaning the release could occur between late September and October.

"We think consumers who initially planned to purchase the 13-inch MacBook Pro and Air will turn to the 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro instead because it has an attractive panel, its price is similar to MacBook Pro and it has a better balance between power consumption and form factor," said Kuo. "However, as supply is limited due to panel and assembly yield rate issues, shipment of the 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro won't be able to satisfy demand. And we think consumers' budgets will transfer to new iOS products after Apple launches them, which suggests that overall MacBook shipments will not grow meaningfully on the 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro."

Kuo stated that MacBooks with Retina screens is the future and could see a massive growth in sales going into 2013.

PCMag.com rated the 15-inch Retina MacBook Pro 4 and a half out of 5, citing "Brilliant Retina Display. Think Profile. Good port selection. Discrete graphics. Speedy storage. Had 8GB of memory."

Perhaps more important is it's ready for Mac's newest operating system - OS X Mountain Lion.
