Angry Birds, the most popular game of all time in the Apple store, made waves with both fans of the game series and sci-fi fans when they released the original Star Wars Angry Birds tie-in game, Angry Birds Star Wars HD.
The game was a big hit for developer Rovio, and now it appears that a sequel, or should we say prequel, is in the works.
The news comes from a message on Twitter in which the developer reveals that a big announcement is coming from the company next Monday, July 15.
The message comes with an image of the familiar red bird from the series, dressed up to look like the young Anakin Skywalker from the prequel trilogy of "Star Wars" games. The image echoes an iconic shot from "Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace," in which the young Anakin's shadow looks like the man he would eventually become, Darth Vader. This most likely means that the next Angry Birds Star Wars HD game will be based around the trilogy.
The original Angry Birds Star Wars HD game was released in 2012 to critical and commercial success from fans of the bird tossing mobile game. Angry Birds Star Wars HD cast the familiar bird/ammo as members of the original trilogy's rebel alliance, with the dastardly green pigs that players had to eliminate taking on the role of the evil Empire's goons. While the game may not switch up the now famous Angry Birds formula, it offers a welcome change in aesthetics for those who grew tired of seeing the same scenery over and over again.
Interested gamers on the lookout for more Angry Birds Star Wars news only need to wait until the end of the weekend to get more information from Rovio. Keep in touch right here for all the latest video game news.
