Defense of the Ancients 2, or Dota 2, the wildly popular game that has taken over eSports despite being in beta for two years, has now received an official release on Steam, so now the game's millions of players can expect the game's characters and structure to more or less be final.
The game had a small hiccup during launch, but that's since been sorted out. However, players who download the game will have to wait a bit before being able to play. Valve is gradually adding players into the game to avoid server problems, according to the Dota 2 FAQ page
"For now, you'll be added to the launch queue, and we'll email you when we are ready for you to come play. The volume of players let in will gradually increase so we can spread the launch load out over time."
Valve did not say how long it expects users to wait, but it's likely they expect the queue to go at a brisk pace, so any interested gamers should secure their place in line as soon as possible. The game has continuously been worked on for two years now, and has attracted a large fan base that has become dedicated to the difficult game, and has brought it into the world of eSports. With the game getting an official release, Valve has prepared the game to obtain even more fans:
"Dota 2's user base is already larger than any game we've ever made, and it continues to grow. Knowing this launch moment was coming, we've spent the past year working on getting both the backend infrastructure and new user experience into a state where we can welcome in anyone that wants to give the game a try. With that work now complete, it is time for us to invite anyone and everyone to come play."
It will be interesting to see how many new players the game receives, and what the existing community's reaction to the surge in players will be.
