Fans hoping for a ZombiU sequel may be waiting quite a while. While speaking to Games Industry, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot announced that the game was not profitable for the company, and as such, there are no current plans for a sequel.

It seems the performance of the Wii U exclusive has also prompted Ubisoft to rethink its relationship with Nintendo. According to Guillemot, the low sales of ZombiU is the main reason why Rayman Legends will now be released across multiple platforms.

"We must find a way to ensure the creativity of those games could have a big enough audience," he said. "We hope [the Wii U] will take off. At the moment, we've said 'let's do through Christmas and see where we are from there.'"

Ubisoft is echoing the feelings of many game publishers right now, with Nintendo rapidly losing third party support across the board for its Wii U console. Even EA, who had previously ported many of its high-profile AAA titles to the Nintendo console, recently announced that it had no current Wii projects in development.

With Sony and Microsoft's next-gen consoles debuting later this year, success during this holiday sale season will be vital for Nintendo to maintain its position as a heavy contender in the home console market.

ZombiU was a launch title for the Wii U console in 2012. It is a first person survival horror game set in the aftermath of a zombie apocalypse in London. The game is best known for its permadeath system, wherein whenever your character is killed, you take on the role of an entirely new protagonist. You can then track down your previous character, now zombified, in order to reclaim your gear.

It launched to mixed reviews, and currently holds a 77 on Metacritic.
