The fifth anniversary of the Apple App Store is coming up Wednesday, July 10, and as part of its celebration, Apple is giving out some paid apps and games for free. Check out which ones you can get for a limited time without shelling out any cash.
Many of the apps and games that Apple made available for free are pretty highly regarded apps for iPhone and/or iPad (and many of them are actually fairly expensive otherwise), so if you have an iOS device, you'll want to click over to the app store soon and nab these apps and games while Apple is still feeling generous. (Many apps, according to the Huffington Post, are also for sale right now for a deeply discounted price.)
Top Apps for Free
Out of the apps available for free, the most notable include some apps for music, journaling, photography, cooking, and education. However, there are a lot more apps that are listed for free or discounted, and you can check them out here, via Reddit.
Barefoot World Atlas:
This app is a world atlas geared towards kids, featuring an interactive stylized globe with images, photographs and narration for children just learning about the world. Little icons represent different countries, regions, and animated images with more information about animals or famous people encourage kids to read or listen and learn more about the world.
Traktor DJ:
This DJing app for iPhone or iPad is a seamless looping, effects, and automatic beat-gridding app for making advanced electronic tracks. It has auto-sync for tracks, a 4-channel mixer, support for multiple MIDI controllers, and tons of virual effects and instruments to play with. Traktor is one of the most valuable apps that Apple has put up for free this week. Usually this app for iPad costs around $20, so even if you're not a music-maker, you should download this just because.
Over:
Over is an iPhone and iPad app that lets you edit photos with artistic text and artwork, and share over the major social media channels. The app has 28 fonts in different styles, ranging from artistic, to fun, to professional. Use it to turn photo sharing into photo messaging—for free (right now).
How to Cook Everything:
This app is a cookbook and recipe guide that usually costs about $10 in the App Store. It's taken from the book of the same title, and includes all 2,000 recipes you'd find in the cookbook, along with illustrations, how-to instructions, and meal-planning guides. The app also comes with temperature and measurement converters, timers built into recipe steps, tutorials, and other cool extras, like shopping-list printing, voice-over instructions, and the kind of searching and browsing capabilities that only an app can provide. Day One:
Day One usually costs $5 at the App Store. It's a journaling and diary app that syncs to Dropbox or iCloud to backup your thoughts. Because it's an app, you can add photos or Foursquare check-ins, and browse your entries either with a timeline, calendar, or favorite entries under "Starred." The app syncs with your Mac as well, but that application is still $10. Get Day One while it's free right here.
