Owners of the popular HTC Butterfly can now join the ranks of HTC One users as the Butterfly has finally (officially) received its Android 4.2.2 update with the Sense 5 user interface.
The update was leaked last month, but users in China are now reporting receiving it over the air in a certified capacity. The firmware comes in two parts: the first is a little over a megabyte and preps the smartphone for the beefier 551MB second part which carries Android 4.2.2 and Sense 5.
Android 4.2.2 won't bring a refresh to the Android 4.1 operating system currently running on the Butterfly, but Sense 5 will introduce the popular Blinkfeed and video highlights. HTC has said in the past that it will keep some Sense elements exclusive to the HTC One, but it looks like Blinkfeed isn't one of them.
There's no word on when the U.S. equivalent of the HTC Butterfly, the HTC Droid DNA on Verizon Wireless, will receive its taste of Android 4.2.2. Given Verizon's previous history with Android updates, it's safe to say it's going to take a while. Verizon is rumored to be gearing up to launch the HTC One on its network within the next couple months, and the carrier will most likely hold off on introducing the new Sense interface until it can move some HTC One units off the shelf.
Let us know if you've received an HTC One Butterfly Android 4.2.2 with Sense 5 update outside of China and where you are located in the comments section below.
