Anyone wishing to still preorder the PlayStation 4 from Gamestop is out of luck. The video game retailer is no longer accepting preorders for the console, explaining stores have already sold out of the theoretical PlayStation 4s the chain is expecting to receive. The retailer's website no longer has the console on preorder, but gamers can still order games and accessories for the console if they wish.
Additionally, GameInformer received a statement from Gamestop commenting on the sudden cut off of preorders. "Due to high demand for the system, GameStop is not currently taking additional store reservations for the PlayStation 4," said Gamestop in a statment.
It is currently unknown if Gamestop will reopen preorders for the PlayStation 4 at any point. However, gamers who still want to preorder the system can do so through Amazon, Best Buy, and Target.
While some may be disappointed they missed out on Gamestop's preorder, there were signs that the console was going to be in very high demand. Both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One delivered the biggest preorder week in Amazon's history, with 2,500 PlayStation 4's and Xbox One's being preordered every minute during peak demand time. Sony's upper management has also expressed that demand for the console would most likely outweigh its manufacturing capabilities.
It will be interesting to see what Gamestop does once the PlayStation 4 has a confirmed release date and gamers have a definite time period for the PlayStation 4's arrival, besides the current placeholder information that the console will be out sometime this year. Demand could swing back up once the console's release date is revealed, but the retailer could miss out on these potential sales if it continues to have no product to move.
