Ubisoft has announced a new entry in their long-running Prince of Persia franchise. The new game will be titled Prince of Persia: The Shadow and Flame, and will be exclusive to mobile devices.
The game shares a name with the MS-DOS platformer released in 1993, and is believed to be an HD remake of sorts. The revamped version will feature all new graphics and sound, the option of virtual buttons or gesture controls, and a new gameplay design.
"The game's experience can still be extended through social connectivity, allowing you to unlock achievements and ascend the leaderboards or share scores with Facebook integration," Ubisoft announced.
The upcoming game will keep the 2D platforming style, but will introduce a focus on combat, including multiple enemies and combo systems.
The original Shadow and the Flame was the second Prince of Persia title to be released, after the initial game in 1989.
The updated Prince of Persia: The Shadow and Flame will be released on July 25, 2013, priced at $2.99. You can view a trailer for the game below.
Meanwhile, a new Prince of Persia game for consoles has yet to be announced. Earlier in 2013, Ubisoft Montreal CEO Yannis Mallat stated that the franchise is currently on hold.
"I think it is fair to say that, right now, Prince of Persia is being paused. But we said the same thing for some other brands that suddenly popped up because a team is willing to do it," he stated.
The last Prince of Persia game to hit consoles was 2010's The Forgotten Sands. The game was released on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC, Wii, and Nintendo DS.
