A half a million dollars will be on the line later this month for competitive Halo 4 players. 343 Industries has announced that it will be hosting a $500,000 competition for the game, with $200,000 going to the winner.
The free-for-all tournament will take place over five weeks, beginning on July 15, with players vying for points earned on the Global Championship playlist. The top four participants each week will qualify for the Halo 4 Global Championship finals that will take place in Seattle on August 31. To sweeten the deal even more, 343 Industries will be footing the bill for all of the finalists' travel fees.
For those who'd like an early shot at the title and prize pool, attendees at the Rooster Teeth Expo in Austin, Texas will have a chance to compete in a "Wild Card" tournament for a spot in the finals. That takes place this weekend at the Austin Convention Center.
Halo 4 gamers abroad can qualify for an additional Wild Card slot at a competition held at Gamescom in Cologne, Germany on August 21.
The overall tournament is being hosted by developer 343 Industries and Virgin Gaming. You can find out more about all of this at the official Halo Waypoint.
Halo 4 was originally released in November 2012. The game made almost $220 million on its first day of sales, with an estimated $300 million gross in its first week alone. According to Microsoft, over a million users played the game in the first 24 hours after release.
The first major tournament for the game took place late last year, titled the Halo 4 Infinity Challenge. With their ongoing partnership with Virgin Gaming, it seems that 343 Industries is intent on elevating the competitive Halo 4 multiplayer scene.
