Apple and Google have reasons to celebrate as both topped respective smartphone market share figures, according to comScore.

For the three months ending in May, Apple has topped Samsung with the most smartphone subscribers.

Apple accounted for 39.2 percent of the smartphone OEM market share, which is a double-digit lead ahead of rival Samsung. The South Korean-based organization accrued 23 percent, an increase of 1.7 percent from the three months ending in February earlier this year.

HTC and Motorola faced losses of 0.6 percent each, however, the former maintained its third place position with 8.7 percent. Motorola finished fourth with 7.8 percent.

LG rounded the top five with 6.7 percent for the end of May.

According to comScore, 141 million people own a smartphone in the U.S., which is the equivalent of 59 percent of the mobile market penetration. The percentage is six percent higher since February.

In regards to the mobile operating system market share, Apple could not top Google's Android platform.

For the three months ending in May, Android saw an increase of 0.7 percent for a first place finish of 52.4 percent.

Apple's iOS saw a small gain of 0.3 percent. The iOS increase gave the Cupertino-based organization a second place position with 39.2 percent.

BlackBerry maintained its third place position with 4.8 percent, which is down 0.2 percent from February. Microsoft's Windows Phone fell by 0.2 percent for three percent of the smartphone mobile operating system market share.

Finally, Symbian dipped by 0.1 percent to finish at 0.4 percent.
