Apple and Google saw minimal gains in the U.S. mobile operating system market share ending in May 2013.
According to Kantar Worldpanel, Android was the most utilized mobile operating system during the three months ending in May 2013. The Google mobile platform accounted for 52 percent of the market share, an increase of 0.1 percent from the same period in 2012.
As for Apple's iOS, the Cupertino-based organization saw a better percentage increase but still double-digits down from Android. The iOS platform garnered 41.9 percent for the three months ending in May, up 3.5 percent from 2012's 38.4 percent.

Android and iOS are comfortably ahead of the next three smartphone platforms.
"Across Europe, Android growth remains strong. However, in the U.S. Apple's expanded distribution agreement with T-Mobile is helping the iPhone keep Android growth at bay. T-Mobile is the smallest of the big four U.S. carriers but it does have the capacity to give iOS a boost, particularly as 28 [percent] of its customers plan to buy an iPhone when they next upgrade," said Kantar's Global Consumer Insight Director Dominic Sunnebo.
Finishing in third place is Microsoft's Windows Phone. The Microsoft mobile platform saw an increase of 0.9 percent from the same three-month period in 2012 to finish at 4.6 percent in 2013.
BlackBerry, however, saw a decrease in their market share. BlackBerry finished with 0.7 percent. The BlackBerry's percentage share is down 3.9 percent from May 2012's 4.6 percent.
Rounding the top five is Symbian with 0.3 percent, which is down by 0.2 from the same period last year.
