Star Wars: The Old Republic has gotten a major boost in users ever since the MMO became free to play, and EA is making sure that both new players and veterans have fresh new content to use more frequently than before.

This is seen in the new patch planned for the game, patch 2.3, which will add a new Ewok companion to the game.

This news comes from Dulfy.net, who also has several details about the companion for preview. The Ewok's name is Treek, and the companion can be unlocked for a cool one million credits once the character has managed to reach Legacy level 40. Treek's primary stat is Aim, and the Ewok is able to use heavy armor. The new character can be used both in healing and tank stances. Anyone interesting in buying Treek can do so from a droid in the Cartel Bazaar, once the patch goes live.

No word yet when this patch will become available, as EA has yet to confirm the existence of Treek or any new patches to The Old Republic. However, the leak has a host of information about the character available, including several cutscenes relating to Treek and the companion's backstory. This would indicate that players will indeed get a chance to use the Ewok very soon.

Ewoks were first introduced to the Star Wars universe in "Return of the Jedi," and at the time some fans thought that including the small bear-like creature was an attempt to appeal more directly to kids and create new toys and other marketable products through the cuddly little creatures. Little did Star Wars fans know that many years later, Jar Jar would appear and make the Ewoks look much more legitimate in old school Star Wars fans' eyes.

Star Wars: The Old Republic is available now and free to play; through subscription plans are still available to more hardcore MMO players.
