When the creator of the Metal Gear Solid series, Hideo Kojima, expressed an interest in seeing the first game of the series remade with the Fox Engine, many fans of the series stood up and took notice.

After, all, the game first appeared in 1998, and though the game was remade on the GameCube by Silicon Knights, many have not been able to play the game that started the legendary franchise. Kojima made it clear that another studio would have to take the burden of remaking and updating the game, and one studio has already expressed public interest in bringing the game to life again.

Just Add Water, the British studio responsible for resurrecting the Oddworld series, has posted an open letter to Kojima asking for the privilege of working on Metal Gear Solid. As the letter states:

"We at Just Add Water feel ideally positioned to do the remake justice for several reasons: 1) We have experience working with legendary IP (Oddworld Inhabitants) and treating the subject matter with the respect it deserves. 2) Many members of our team are huge Metal Gear fans, with very good knowledge of the source material. 3) We really, really want to do it," the letter stated.

Though the remake has yet to be confirmed, it certainly has drummed up lots of interest in the days since the original story broke.

In any case, this would not the first time that Kojima trusted a western company with his fabled series (if Just Add Water was indeed chosen to remake the game). Platinum game handled the development of the recently released Metal Gear Rising" Revengeance spinoff title. Perhaps that studio would perform the duty of bring the PlayStation One title back into the mainstream, however so far Platinum Games has been quiet on that front.  Look out for more Metal Gear Solid remake news as it develops.
