Sony Xperia Z Update Release Date: Android 4.2.2 Rolling Out in Select Regions

It looks like Sony Xperia Z owners are finally getting a long overdue promise: Android 4.2.2. According to various reports, it seems that Xperia Zs in certain regions around the world are receiving Android 4.2.2 over the air (OTA).

Sony promised to have Android 4.2.2 out and about shortly after the Xperia Z's release back in February, and while the electronics manufacturer has failed to deliver so far, that might have all change. As Xperia Blog notes, it seems that in Spain and Ukraine Xperia Z LTE model C6603 is eligible, while carrier-tied versions in Austria, Czech Republic, and the Netherlands are also currently receiving Android 4.2.2. Owners of the HSPA+ Xperia Z model C6602 in Taiwan should also be getting a taste of Android 4.2.2.

As with all OTA Android firmware updates, it will be some time until Xperia Z owners everywhere will have access to Android 4.2.2. Instead, Android rollouts are typically staggered, going out in batches, so Xperia Z owners not experienced enough to snag the download through a software or online should simply rest easy for a bit longer as Sony should aggressively push Android 4.2.2 OTA in the coming weeks.

It wasn't too long ago that an XDADeveloper member managed to leak out a build of Android 4.2.2 for the Xperia Z, hinting that Sony should be ready to push it out any time now. Australian carrier Telstra has stated that it is currently testing Android 4.2.2 for the Xperia Z, and will release it July 15.
