It has become fairly clear that the much-anticipated Android 4.2.2 update for the Samsung Galaxy S3 won't be releasing as soon as most had hoped. Instead, the firmware is expected sometime in Q3 2013, and it looks like we might have a more specific time frame for you.
Samsung-centric website SamMobile, the very same one that's been leaking Galaxy S3 Android 4.2.2 builds, states in a new report detailing a new build leak that Samsung Galaxy S3 owners should expect the update sometime in July or August.
"Android 4.2.2 is still under testing phase by Samsung and they will release the official final Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update for the Galaxy S III in July/August," SamMobile writes.
This isn't necessarily groundbreaking news, as Q3 2013 runs from the beginning of July until the end of September. Still, it narrows down the time frame by one month, and if SamMobile is correct, then it means that Galaxy S3 owners will have Android 4.2.2 sooner rather than later.
The Samsung Galaxy S3 was initially believed to receive Android 4.2.2 sometime in June. However, it became clear that Samsung was experiencing issues porting over the new Galaxy S4 TouchWiz interface over to older handsets, including the Galaxy Note 2. TouchWiz is Samsung's user interface that operates on top of the stock Android operating system and is responsible for Samsung-specific features, like the new voice and gesture commands found on the Galaxy S4.
Does the delay in getting Android 4.2.2 up and running on the Galaxy S3 have you looking towards a newer handset? If so, which one?
