HTC One owners were recently let down when the smartphone manufacturer didn't roll out Android 4.2.2 on time, but an Australian carrier might have some good news: Android 4.2.2 for the HTC One will be landing in July.
According to Telstra's handset updates page, the carrier expects Android 4.2.2 to be publically available to HTC Ones on July 22. As of right now, the carrier states that it is "waiting for initial vendor submission," meaning that HTC hasn't polished up the build enough to show it off to wireless networks.
Telstra's handset update list is by no means an official statement, and is only the network's gauge of when it expects the update to roll out. The time frame, however, does fit in with current rumors.
The Android 4.2.2 firmware for the HTC One was expected to release last week - at least that's what one enthusiastic HTC ambassador to France said. However, as time as passed by, it has become clear that HTC never intended to push out Android 4.2.2 that early, leaving July as a more likely release time frame. HTC needs to update its flagship phone soon, as rivals Samsung and Sony are all also upgrading major devices in their lineups to Android 4.2.2 in July. The HTC One runs Android 4.1, while Samsung's Galaxy S4 released with Android 4.2.2 right out of the box.
The Android 4.2.2 update for the HTC One will also include a new version of Sense, HTC's user interface it piles on top of stock Android in order to make the experience on its devices unique.
