Now that the flood gates are open and the Xbox One has been priced, dated, and shown, a steady trickle of accessories for Microsoft's next-generation console have begun to crawl from the darkness cast by a legion of non-disclosure agreements. Next in line is the new official voice chat headset, which appears quite similar to its Xbox 360 brethren, but with a more angular mouth piece. The gadget was revealed alongside an updated play and charge kit which takes "under four hours" to fully fill up, according to a Gamespot report.
One of the standout upgrades of the new microphone is the ability to "access mute and volume controls without taking their hands off the controller," explains the site. No price has been announced for the accessory, although the Xbox One controller is listed at $59.99 on Amazon.com. Typically, headset prices fall lower than the controllers, so don't expect anything higher than that.
The Xbox One costs a $499.99 on day one, meanwhile an optional Xbox Live subscription will set you back $59.99. Microsoft recently confirmed that first party games will cost $60, perpetuating the current standard. Third-party publishers have yet to announce their plans, although any spike above the status quo would likely incite a negative reaction from the gaming community.
Microsoft has had a rough few weeks, announcing a price $100 more expensive than the PS4, and facing criticism for its endorsement of DRM and its set of complex new rules surrounding used game transfers. Even the most well-informed members of the press are having a hard time grasping the company's new policy. Despite all of the negative sentiment directed towards Microsoft, the console wars are far from over. Consumers will speak with their wallets this holiday season.
