Google is expected to roll out a smaller Android 4.3 firmware as the next step in Android rather than Android 5.0, but that hasn't stopped reports about "Key Lime Pie" from coming in. A new report states that Google will release Android 5.0 in October to possibly coincide with the release of the Moto X phone.
"The latest news from our sources is that Google will take the wraps off their truly next-generation Android OS, a.k.a 5.0 Key Lime Pie some time in late October," VR-Zone wrote in an exclusive report, citing unnamed insiders.
"I take the liberty to remind you folks that October happens to be the rumored time-of-appearance for the Motorola X Phone, and the absence of a new Nexus Smartphone only feeds more fuel to our report (fire)."
Android 5.0 will be Google's next big overhaul to the Android operating system, much like iOS 7 will be for Apple. Not much is known about it, but it looks like Google is delaying its release in order to create some space between Android versions. As it stands now, developers and handset manufacturers are having an incredibly hard time keeping up with Google's update pace, with the Google-sponsored Nexus lineup being the only ones with the latest version for months.
Launching a completely new Android look with the Moto X smartphone would make sense, as the Moto X is looked upon as the next Google smartphone, given the fact that Google did not announce a new Nexus phone at its I/O conference. The phone, recently announced at a conference, will come with a multitude of sensors that will be able to tell whether it's in a car or in your pocket, and will adjust its functionality accordingly.
Google has neither confirmed nor denied the report.
