When Star Wars: Battlefront 3 was teased briefly during E3 by EA Games, the crowd and internet erupted with joy. Even though EA recently opened up DICE LA to handle Star Wars titles, Battlefront 3 will be developed by the original DICE studio located in Stockholm, Sweden. When questioned by Eurogamer about that decision, EA Games Label boss Patrick Söderlund had this to say about the two DICE offices:
"We will support a lot of what's made in Stockholm from LA...Imagine stuff like potential expansion packs and premium services being managed and handled out of LA. But the main game, Battlefront, is being built in Sweden. And so is Mirror's Edge. And so is Battlefield 4. It's a way for us to expand the DICE universe, to be able to do more. They are helping. Who knows where this will take them long term? Right now they're focused on helping."
DICE LA is composed of many people who worked for Danger Close, the studio that made Medal of Honor games. The DICE LA team is still being put together and organized, so they are most likely not ready to undertake a task such as creating Battlefront 3, so the original DICE team will be working on it alongside the upcoming Battlefield 4 and Mirror's Edge 2. Söderlund is excited for the game, and describes the vision that DICE has for the project:
"This is DICE's interpretation of what Battlefront should be, That's the best description you can have. There are absolutely things in the previous Battlefront games that you'll recognize and remember, but DICE wants to put its own flavour on it. That's the only way we can do it. Hence it's called Star Wars: Battlefront, without a 3 at the end. We want to say it's something new. But again, it's going to be very Star Wars and very cool."
Star Wars: Battlefront 3 will be released on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC, but has no release window set.
