Sony Xperia S owners rejoice. It looks like the promised software Jelly Bean fix is beginning to roll out to handsets across the globe. The software will fix a number of issues that arose from the Jelly Bean update released in May.
The update, 6.2.B.0.211, affects the Xperia S (LT26i), Xperia SL (LT26ii) and Xperia Acro S (LT26w) models. As of right now, Xperia Blog is reporting that 6.2.B.0.211 is rolling out in areas in the Middle East and Russia. As with all over the air updates, this one is staggered, meaning that more regions around the world will begin receiving it in due time.
The Sony Xperia S first got its taste of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean goodness in late May. Since then, however, a number of users have complained about a variety of problems, including Wi-Fi, GPS, and other connectivity issues. Sony took notice, and confirmed they were working on a fix that would release sometime soon.
"We have acknowledged this and plan to fix this in upcoming software update (6.2.B.0.211). The roll out of this update is planned to start week 23-24," a Sony rep said on Sony's mobile forums.
"As always when rolling out new software versions. It might not reach your device upon roll out start since it rolls out gradually. I suggest that you use PC Companion, Update Service or Bridge for mac to check for software updates from time to time."
The update does not increase the Android version, and only fixes bugs existent in the current Jelly Bean build.
