Sony Xperia Z owners may be set to receive a juicy update in the near future. While it hasn't been confirmed, two mysterious new Sony firmwares have just been approved, one of which could be Android 4.2.

Website Xperia Blog managed to find firmwares 10.1.1.A.1.319 and 10.3.A.0.407 floating around the PTCRB website. The PTCRB website generally posts up firmwares that have been approved before they are made available to the public. If Sony's previous naming procedure is followed, the first firmware is most likely an Android 4.1 software. The second, 10.3, however, could be Android 4.2 for the Xperia Z.

Sony has not confirmed whether the firmware is indeed Android 4.2 for the Xperia Z, so be sure to take this bit of news with a healthy dose of skepticism. Still, Sony did promise that the Xperia Z would receive Android 4.2 soon after its release. The Xperia Z launched back in February, meaning four months has gone by and still no Android 4.2. The 10.3 firmware on the PTCRB website could be just that.

Sony just recently released firmware 10.1.1.A.1.307 out to Xperia Z owners. The firmware improves camera quality and brings the White Balance app to the Xperia Z. White Balance simply allows for the user to better tailor screen hues, white balance, and saturation for a more pleasurable viewing experience.

The Sony Xperia Z has gained much fanfare since releasing earlier this year, going head to head with other popular flagship phones like the HTC One or Samsung Galaxy S4 with one standout feature: it is waterproof and dustproof. It is expected to release soon in the United States through a carrier, most likely T-Mobile or AT&T.
