Ubisoft had the tough job of presenting their E3 slate in between the Microsoft and Sony giants. Luckily, they were able to pull together some compelling reasons to keep an eye on this publisher, including some familiar faces as well as a few fresh, new IPs. Here are five highlights from the press conference.
Lots And Lots Of Clancy
Splinter Cell fans got a great look at the next installment in the long running series, titled Blacklist. The game's trailer showed off some of the cinematic action, as well as stealth and co-op mechanics.
However, the real highlight was The Division, a brand new IP from Massive Entertainment. The game follows the aftermath of a disease epidemic that causes the collapse of the US government in just five days.
The next-gen title looks pretty stunning, and once you realize that all of those voices in the gameplay demo aren't NPCs, the open world, multiplayer aspect becomes even more intriguing. The best part was when a fourth player dropped in a UAV drone using his tablet to get his friends out of a sticky situation. It was a moment that was almost topped by the surprise bit of PvP action right at the end.
How this game is going to work out this multiplayer system is still a mystery, but needless to say, The Division seems to be one of the big, buzz-worthy titles of this year's E3.
Rayman
Ubisoft switched gears and turned their attention to a significantly less fresh IP, but a series that fans still care an awful lot about. Rayman Legends was showcased, and confirmed for a September 2013 release. The game looks pretty fantastic, and the 120 promised levels seems like it was worth the wait.
South Park Is Back On Track
This wasn't a huge reveal, but the trailer for South Park and the Stick of Truth that Ubisoft brought confirmed a 2013 release. This is great news for fans who were worried that the collapse of THQ had meant the end for this promising title.
More Watch_Dogs
How is it that this game keeps looking better and better? First revealed at Ubisoft's E3 press conference exactly one year ago, fans have been watching and waiting for this title for a long, long time. Gamers will finally get their hands on it this November for the PC, PS3, Xbox 360, and with any luck, next-gen versions on the Xbox One and PS4.
The Crew
New IPs seemed to be the order of the day for Ubisoft, and you really can't complain when they look as great as The Crew. The game is promising a lot, but if it can deliver, it just might be the most ambitious open world driving game ever.
Ubisoft has stated that you'll be able to explore huge stretches of the US, going on or off road to elude the police and pull of heists. The game's playable areas are said to cover thousands of square miles, with seamless environments including cities, suburbs, and rural areas. If nothing else, it looks ready to give EA's Need for Speed a run for its money. The Crew is currently aiming for an early 2014 release window.
