The iOS 7 made its formal debut at the 2013 Worldwide Developers Conference on Monday, confirming reports of a "flat" surface.
While the next Apple mobile operating system won't be available until autumn, Apple previewed the iOS 7 and its many changes.
"Nothing we've ever created has been designed just to look beautiful. That's approaching the opportunity from the wrong end. Instead, as we reconsidered iOS, our purpose was to create an experience that was simpler, more useful, and more enjoyable - while building on the things people love about iOS," explained Apple in regards to the mobile platform's design. "Ultimately, redesigning the way it works led us to redesign the way it looks. Because good design is design that's in service of the experience."

While indirectly addressing the "flat" reports, a reference to keeping aspects simple, Apple explained how they define the term "simplicity."
According to Apple, "Simplicity" is more than the removal of "decoration," which may refer to the gradients on the app icons.
"Simplicity" is "about bringing order to complexity. And it's about making something that always seems to 'just work.' When you pick something up for the first time and already know how to do the things you want to do, that's simplicity."
Apple is now touting the new interface as "purposely obstructive," with the removal of unnecessary bars, buttons, and elements that they believe did not add value.
"We add features only when they're truly useful. And we add them in a way that makes sense. The new Control Center in iOS 7 is a great example. It gives you one-swipe access to the things you often want to do on a moment's notice."
With iOS 7, changes include typography, icons, and new colors. Apple stated the changes may not be apparent to users at first, but it all works together to create a "harmonious relationship" amongst the iOS elements.
