Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag was one of the highlights of both the Ubisoft and Sony press conferences during E3. The game promises to be one of the highlights of the early next-gen titles, as well as a closing the book on many gamers PlayStation 3's and Xbox 360's. Ubisoft has released gameplay footage for the game, showing new protagonist Edward Kenway in his element as an assassin living in the world of pirates.
The gameplay trailer begins with Edward shadowing a mysterious man. Typical Assassin's Creed moves such as hiding from a target by blending in with the crowd or sitting on a bench as seen. We see much of the camp the scene takes place in, which is full of loot, drunken men and shady women. Edward follows the target into the jungle, where he uses the plants and undergrowth to hide himself as the target meets with his cronies. Edward begins his assault, taking down two men with his wrist blade stealthily. Edward eventually takes to the trees, performing a double assassination by jumping down on his foes. It turns out the men were signaling a naval bombardment on the pirates, and Edward races to his ship via some nifty parkour moves on the rooftops. Players take control of the ship and have to avoid sinking ships and cannon fire. One ship then chases Edward and his crew, and players exchange cannon fire with the other ship. Edward cripples the ship, and then jumps on board to deal out punishment to the enemy crew. The trailer fades out as Edward and crew are surrounded by enemies.
The game looks incredibly polished and fluid, and should be one of the highlights of the next-gen's launch lineup. Look out for Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag October 29 for the PlayStation 3, PC, Xbox 360, and Wii U, as well as the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One whenever they launch.
