Just how many Galaxy S4 variants is Samsung poised to release? If reports are true, then the South Korean electronics manufacturer could have a model equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor lined up for a release later this year alongside the Zoom and Active models.
Some new AnTuTu benchmarks have surfaced, one with a model SHV-E330S operating at around 2.3GHz. Model SHV-E330S is said to be an LTE-advanced Galaxy S4 version Samsung is planning on releasing in South Korea sometime in 2013. Samsung has released specific devices just for its home turf before, so the practice wouldn't be anything new.
It's the 2.3GHz speed that is interesting, however. The Galaxy S4 currently comes with one of two processors: either a Samsung Exynos 5 Octa eight-core chipset, or a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600. Both processors are rated under 2GHz, and the 2.3GHz benchmark points to Qualcomm's powerful Snapdragon 800 series. Interestingly enough, the SHV-E330S scored a 24,179 on the AnTuTu benchmarks, a score lower than current Galaxy S4 models equipped with the Exynos 5 Octa or Snapdragon 600 chips. More likely than not, this is due to the device being in an early testing stage, as benchmarks usually improve significantly as the device nears its release date.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor is one of the most powerful mobile computing chipsets on the market, and is said to be under the hoods of many upcoming powerful phablets from Sony, LG, and more.
There's no word on whether Samsung will bring the Snapdragon 800 Galaxy S4 variant to the United States. More likely, the company won't, and the first taste of a Snapdragon 800-powered Samsung smartphone stateside will probably be the Galaxy Note 3 in the fall.
