Neither Sony or Microsoft have announced pricing details for the Playstation 4 or Xbox One, but now a new analyst has stepped forward to throw in his two cents on how much the PlayStation 4 will cost. Sterne Agee analyst Arvind Bhatia believes that the PlayStation 4 will retail for less than $400, according to a note to investors and Gamespot:
"Given that experience, we believe Sony will aim to keep the price point for PlayStation 4 below $400."
Bhatia also commented on how Sony is losing a money making opportunity by not charging for the Playstation Network. He believes that Sony is missing out on a chance to put out a cheaper, subsidized model of the PlayStation 4, in which gamers buy the console for a reduced price while committing to a contract to another company.
The under $400 figure has been a popular choice for analysis of the video game industry for both consoles. Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter also believes that the console will cost less than $400, specifically claiming the PlayStation 4 will cost $350. Many are expecting that Sony will reveal the price for the console at E3. Bhatia believes that the Xbox One will cost more than $400, though he did not give a prediction for exactly how much Microsoft's console will cost gamers at launch.
Bhatia also stated his faith in Nintendo, warning that those who underestimate or write-off the company are foolhardy, as they can always surprise gamers. Nintendo figures to have a surge of first-party titles for the Wii U starting in August with Pikmin 3, and continuing with new Mario and Legend of Zelda titles also in the mix.
