The Samsung Galaxy S4 is still hot off the press, but Samsung is already addressing some of the initial criticisms the handset had received. The South Korean electronics manufacturer is now rolling out a Galaxy S4 firmware update, which, among its many improvements, increases the available storage space on the handset.
The firmware, Android 4.2.2 PDA version I9505XXUBMEA, is a rather hefty 365MB, so be sure to have the device fully charged and tethered to a Wi-Fi connection. The firmware supposedly affects both the Exynos 5 Octa eight-core Galaxy S4 variant, and the Qualcomm Snapdragon Galaxy S4.
The update is currently rolling out over the air, although it will hit different countries at different times. Interested parties can also download the firmware through Samsung's KIES software.
One of the chief complaints against the Galaxy S4 is the lack of available storage space on the handset. A 16GB model only comes with 9.15GB of free space, leaving many users frustrated. The new firmware update hopes to address that by allowing users to move their apps onto an SD card, and by increasing the free space on the smartphone to 9.23GB. It's not much, but it should come as a welcome improvement.
The update also includes a new camera firmware, the ability to record in HDR video, a semi-transparent status bar, new Settings icons, and the usual security patches among other features.
