Google's mobile operating system easily trounced Apple and Microsoft in the sales market share for the three months ending in April this year across Europe.

According to Kantar Worldpanel ComTech, Android was the most utilized mobile platform in France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom.

In Spain, Android  accounted for a massive 92.8 percent in the three-month ending in April, which is also an 11.7 percent increase compared to the same period in 2012. Apple's iOS finished second with 4.1 percent, up 0.2 percent from 2012.

Germany saw Apple's iOS decline two percent compared to 2012, going from 18.6 percent to 16.6 percent. The iOS placed second behind Android's 74.3 percent. Unlike Apple in Germany, Android's market share saw an increase of 6.2 percent. Microsoft's Windows Phone saw a moderate increase as well of 2.3 percent, enough to place third with 6.4 percent.

Android continues its winning streak in France with 64.2 percent, up 6.3 percent from 2012. The Apple mobile operating system bounced from 18.9 percent to 20.1 percent, comfortably ahead of Windows Phone's 6.2 percent. In comparison to 2012, the Microsoft mobile platform saw a better increase than iOS with 3.7 percent to 1.2 percent.

Italy's smartphone users also prefer Android to iOS and Windows Phone. Android finished first with 66.7 percent, a massive improvement of 18.8 percent compared to 2012. Apple ranked second with 16.6 percent, however, the percentage is down 5.6 percent from the three months ending in 2012. Windows Phone improved by 3.8 percent, finishing third at an impressive 10.5 percent.

Finally, the United Kingdom rounds out the European smartphone market share with Android and Windows Phone improving from their 2012 figures. Android topped with 56.9 percent, up 6.8 percent from last year. The iOS placed a distant but comfortable second place with 28.7 percent, but down 1.6 percent from 2012's 30.3 percent. Windows Phone saw an increase of 4.4 percent, finishing at 8.4 percent by late April 2013.

"Android and iOS continue to take the lion's share of smartphone sales in Britain. However, Windows phones are becoming increasingly popular with consumers," said Kantar Worldpanel ComTech's Global Consumer Insight Director Dominic Sunnebo. "Windows, has grown its share by 4.4 percentage points compared with the same period last year and now holds an 8.4 [percent] share of the market."
