HTC One owners around the world should be getting a very special treat by the end of the month. If an HTC Russia executive is right, Android 4.2.2 for the HTC One should begin rolling out by the middle of June.

The head of HTC Russia, Andrey Kormiltsev, took to Twitter recently to post the following in Russian:

Roughy translated, that equates to, "HTC One upgrade to 4.2.2 is planned for mid-June. By FOTA."

FOTA refers to "firmware over-the-air" technology. What that essentially refers to is when the firmware update is pushed out wirelessly by the phone's manufacturer or carrier.

This isn't the first mention of Android 4.2.2 coming soon for the HTC One. Well-known and respected HTC modder LlabTooFer recently tweeted out "Android 4.2.2 for the HTC One is very close," adding fuel to the fire that HTC is aggressively looking to put its flagship operating system on par with rivals'. The HTC one currently runs Android 4.1.2, while Samsung's new Galaxy S4 comes with Android 4.2.2 already installed. Older flagships from Samsung, such as the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 are also slated to receive an Android 4.2 upgrade soon.

LlabTooFer also stated that the HTC One Android 4.2.2 update would come packaged with a new version of HTC's graphical UI, Sense. The new version should be Sense 5.1, up from Sense 5.0.

None of this has been officialy confirmed with HTC, and given the rather loose nature of social media outlets such as Twitter, it's still prudent to exercise a healthy dose of skepticism.

Getting an Android update now is of paramount importance to HTC, a company going into the summer with a host of public image problems. The HTC One, with its 4.7-inch 1080p display and sleek aluminum body is no slouch, and it's time its software started reflecting that.
